Release Day: May...

It's release day...the day Papertrey Ink releases its new products for the month tonight at 10pm EST. I have a few more projects to show you with the new releases!

First up is Splat. I stamped the "celebrate" from the Splat stamp set in Versamark and embossed it with gold on Classic Kraft cardstock. I placed the Framed Love die over the top (in Vintage Cream cardstock) and then wrapped it in Rustic Cream twine.

On the envelope, you can see I just stamped the two corners with Background Basics: Super Stripes.  I don't know why, but I love black lately. It's elegant for an anniversary card with the gold and warm colors.

The little flag embellishment was made by me, I stamped a piece of Classic Kraft with Background Basics: Postmarks, cut it into a banner shape, then punched a hole to tie it onto the twine. The heart is made with gold foil paper from Betsy's first Make It Market kit, Luxe Letterpress.

Here is Oopsie Daisy. I used the stamps on the leaves and the die to cut the flowers.

This cute chipboard is by Elle's Studio, and I've been dying to do something with it. I found this washi tape that is clear with little flowers and layered strips of it over the wood veneer. I love how you can see the wood through it!  Over the arrow, I used die cut vellum flowers made with Oopsy Daisy dies and stamped the Oopsy Daisy leaves.

Yes, I stitched right on the wood veneer with my machine! It works great!

This card is made with the new Phrase Play #4 stamps and dies.

The Circle Scribbles dies make gorgeous flowers!! To make the flower, I cut two of the new Circle Scribbles dies and layered them, along with two leaves from the Ruby Rose dies.

Such a quick and easy card to make! I backed it with Aqua Mist cardstock and added it to a Soft Stone base.

Here is Ballerina Beauty. When I saw this sentiment, I thought of her twirling around, which immediately made me think of the swirls in Stitches & Swirls stamps! I stamped them in Pure Poppy ink and colored a few of them in with watercolor paints onto the Sweet Blush cardstock.
Also cut the little ballerina from watercolor paper, stamped her outline with Sweet Blush ink, then painted her in with watercolors (since I don't have Copics...well, I do have 3 but they disappeared. I think Kati may have "borrowed" them. lol) Can't see her face real well in these pics, but it's there. :)

Life Is Beautiful...

Welcome to Papertrey Ink's second group post to share some of the new items coming out this month! My first card set is a sympathy set, and I kept the butterflies and design very simple, yet I think it has a nice design to it with some special details for the recipient.

Two butterflies were die cut from Life Is Beautiful, and I stamped only the top one in Soft Stone ink leaving the bottom one white. I layered these, offsetting them slightly, onto vellum. The sentiment is stamped with Keep It Simple: Sympathy onto the vellum. (If you do stamp on vellum, be sure to let it dry thoroughly before handling the vellum.) Then I layered the vellum over a cardstock piece and a design cut from a new die set called Delicate Details.

The vellum and Delicate Details die are adhered in the back center of the butterflies (to hide the adhesive), and then I added a bit of machine stitching on top to hold the vellum on even more.

With Sympathy card set:
(All supplies by Papertrey Ink unless otherwise noted.)
STAMPS: Life Is Beautiful, Keep It Simple: Sympathy
INK: True Black, Soft Stone
PAPER: Hawaiian Shores, Spring Moss, Harvest Gold cardstock
DIES: Life Is Beautiful dies, Delicate Details dies
OTHER: vellum from craft store, machine stitching.
______

Next, I tried a few more techniques on a card with the butterfly set. I die cut the butterfly off the edge of a piece of white cardstock. Then I used a new stamp set called Background Basics: Venice on the background (removing the butterfly, so I could keep that white.) When finished with the background, I placed the butterfly back in and stamped the sentiment with Life Is Beautiful.

Here you can see the in-laid die cut detail a little better. Love this technique, need to remember to do this more often!

Wishing You a Beautiful Day card:

STAMPS: Life Is Beautiful, Background Basics: Venice
INK: Summer Sunrise, True Black by PTI; Soft Granite by Hero Arts

Ultimate Baby Inspiration...

((UPDATE: HERE is a video on how to make the felt roses that I've done on these booties.))

I have a sweet little baby ensemble to show you today! My project started out with these baby booties and then I made the tag to match and the card to coordinate also! Let's start with the card...

This is made with a new stamp set called Rattled. I used the new Instant Photo 1 die to cut the frame around it and stamped the dots with Polkadot Basics III. I popped it up with foam adhesive and tied seam binding around the frame before attaching. In the center, I used the Rattled stamps and dies. I used Glossy Accents on the rattle to make it shiny and dimensional.

Oh Baby! card:
(All supplies by Papertrey Ink unless otherwise noted.)
STAMPS: Rattled, Polkadot Basics III
INK: Plum Pudding, Lavender Moon, Simply Chartreuse, True Black
PAPER: Vintage Cream
DIES: Rattled, Instant Photo 1 die
OTHER: pearl by Melissa Frances, Glossy Accents - craft supply.
______

Next, we have some baby shoes made with the new Baby Booties dies and Baby Bootie Detail dies! Aren't they adorable? I can't wait to see what everyone else made with these. Erin Lincoln came up with these dies, and they are so creative! Now I really want to go to a baby shower (girl, of course!), so I can give them away!

The felt colors I chose for my booties were Vintage Cream, Lavender Moon and Spring Moss. These were WAY easier than I thought they were going to be to make. Erin's videos explain it perfectly! Not hard at all, just takes a little bit of time to get them all stitched up. I think this pair took me about an hour at the most, but I had so much fun and was amazed at the result when I was finished! (I ran to show my hubby, but he gave me a funny look! HA!) To be so excited about something like this...I guess men just don't "get it", do they?
To decorate the tops of these, I used the "Spatted Bow" with the scalloped edge. (Except I didn't use the bow piece on top, just the scalloped piece.) Instead of the bow, I made my own felt flower with a strip of felt and die cut leaves with the The Sweet Life dies.

To add a little tag for the recipient, I cut the same scalloped die I used on the shoe, except this time I cut it out of cardstock instead of felt, so I could stamp on it. I stitched it up with cream floss to coordinate with the booties, then I used Rattled stamp set for the sentiment and bow on the tag.

Erin Lincoln has posted a video on how to use these dies to create baby booties. Watch it HERE. She shows you how to make all of the different kinds: Fringed Moccasins, Penny Loafers, Mary Janes, etc. Be sure to watch the main video first on making the basic bootie!

PAPER: Vintage Cream
DIES: Baby Booties dies, Baby Booties Details dies, The Sweet Life dies (leaves), Rattled (bow on tag)

Monthly Moments: May...

The brand new Monthly Moments: May products will be coming out on May 15th at Papertrey Ink! Here are some things I made with these gorgeous items!

On white cardstock, I painted some watercolors, mixing Brilliant Red, Flesh Tint and White together to get a peachy pink like to match the paper! I wanted the smile journaling card from the Monthly Moments: May Journal Cards to be my focal point and found this cute picture of Kati's baby teeth when she lost her first tooth. We've got teeth on the brain lately, as she just got braces put on last week. I just loved those cute little baby teeth.

The Circle Scribbles dies were used here as flowers, the Monthly Moments: May stamp set for the leaves, and Clip Tips for the cute little "Special Day" tab! And I stamped and die cut the butterflies from Life Is Beautiful. I don't know if you can see it, but I added some fine glitter to the butterflies as well.

Smile scrapbook layout (11" x 11" finished size):
(All supplies by Papertrey Ink unless otherwise noted.)
STAMPS: Monthly Moments: May stamps, Life Is Beautiful stamps, Clip Tips
INK: True Black, Ripe Avocado; Soft Granite by Hero Arts
PAPER: Monthly Moments: May Journal Cards, Monthly Moments: May digital download (free with kit), Vintage Cream cardstock
DIES: Life Is Beautiful, Circle Scribbles, Memory Clips
OTHER: watercolors by Reeves (from Michaels), pearl by Melissa Frances, Prisma glitter.
______

Here I used the new Instant Photo I die and cut it three times for the focal point of my layout. You can use these to hold photos, journaling or even just pretty embellishments...I used one of each here!
On watercolor paper, I painted a gray background. I really wanted the little tabs and the color to be the focal point, so I chose a neutral background. I used the new Wet Paint II stamp set to stamp each Instant Photo 1 die cut card on the bottom with "smile, celebrate and friends", with a photo of my daughter and friends from NY. We had a going away party for her before we moved. We had such a sweet group of girls who were all in the same Kindergarten, first and second grade classes together and all cheered in flag football in the summer together too, so they were inseparable!

See those little paper clips? Those are the new Clip Tips stamps and Memory Clips dies! LOVE these!! What a fun way to dress up a journaling card or clip onto a photo. There are almost 50 little sayings in this stamp set. So much fun! Here are just a few.

You can also layer the Clip Tips like I did here with these 3 shapes...

I have a lot of different fonts going on here, but I thought since the color scheme was cohesive, it would tie all of the fun word play together.  The stamped butterflies and "enjoy" were made with the Monthly Moments: May stamp set. I first dipped the stamp in Melon Berry and then the top of the butterfly in Pure Poppy before stamping.

Together Us scrapbook layout (11" x 11" finished size):
(All supplies by Papertrey Ink unless otherwise noted.)
STAMPS: Monthly Moments: May, Wet Paint III, Clip Tips
INK: Melon Berry, Aqua Mist, Tropical Teal, True Black
PAPER: white, Melon Berry, Tropical Teal cardstocks; Aqua Mist, Melon Berry and Smokey Shadow Pattern Packs
DIES: Instant Photo I die, Memory Clips dies, Smooth Alphabet and Numbers dies (US), Wonderful Words: Together die, Phrase Play #4 die (JOY word), Life Is Beautiful (butterfly)
OTHER:  pearl by Melissa Frances, floral paper by Crate Paper.
______

Next, I used another of the journaling cards from the Monthly Moments: May kit and the stamps on this page. I used the word "May" as the beginning of my journaling. Since Mother's Day was just here, I was inspired to do a page of my girls and I. The journaling says, "May you always know love and safety and the security of our family. I love you both so much and love being your mom. Today is Mother's Day 2014, and I couldn't imagine my life any other way than with you! Love, Mom"

As you can see, I used the Circle Scribbles dies again and created a border on top. I watercolored underneath them to add a tiny bit of color.

Last, here are a few extra journaling cards I made with the papers, Clip Tips and Monthly Moments: May stamps. Oh, and the Instant Photo 2 die

The Monthly Moments: May stamps and/or the Clip Tips stamps were added to each the journal cards!

The Clip Tips will be getting a lot of use by me. :)

Make It Monday: video tutorial.

Hey there, and happy Monday to you!
What's better than getting a card in the mail from someone special? Getting one that's all decorated on the outside too! I have a new video to share with you this morning with Papertrey Ink all about "Envelope Wraps".

Envelope Wraps are a great way to dress up your envelopes by using Papertrey Ink's stamps and dies. You can add them to an envelope you are mailing. If you do so, I would recommend running them through a Xyron machine to make them super sticky before mailing, so they don't come off during the shipping process. (And ask the postal worker to "hand stamp" them!) Or you can just use them to dress up an envelope for a gift box or gift bag you are hand-delivering!

The Wine Bottle Tag die is what I used to create these wraps for my envelopes. But you could use any sort of larger tag die that would wrap around to the back of your envelope, or you can just cut a piece of cardstock and score and wrap it around to the back. Won't these make your envelopes so much fun for the mail?! The mailman (or lady) will love seeing some bright and happy envelopes, and your recipient too.

This is what the Wine Bottle Tag die looks like when you wrap it around to the back (the circle).

Swing by Nichole's blog to see the full video on how to create these, and hopefully it will give you lots of ideas for dressing up your boring white envies!

More Monthly Moments: April...

Hey, everyone! I have another little pocket page to share with you made with the Monthly Moments: April stamps, dies and the April Journal cards by Papertrey Ink. (You can get the items separately, or get the whole kit here.) I printed out a few of my favorite pics from Easter and wanted to get them in my scrapbook.

If you are on my Facebook page, you probably will already have seen these pics. We had a quiet Easter this year. Kati is 8, so I thought she would want to do the egg hunt at our rec center, but she said she was "too old". I was so bummed! Of course, I wanted pictures!! ha. But really, I am sad they are getting "too old" for some of our traditions. We dyed eggs on Saturday before Easter. I don't know if you can see, but Kati's Littlest Pet Shops are in the background watching her dye eggs. :) I used the Simply Framed stamp set in a few places here as well ("documented" and "love this") and the Monthly Moments: April die.
Here I added "so cute" stamped on vellum with the Monthly Moments: April stamps.

The journaling is printed on vellum, but I added a white background, so you can read it better.

On the right is a pocket card I made myself. It started out as vellum with a few of the Filigree Borders die cut and stitched on and a Beautiful Butterfly over the top. But I felt like it needed more color, so I added one of the April Journal Cards underneath the finished vellum piece. The Button Stacks II die dressed up the butterfly center. I love making some of my own cards to dress up the pages. Oh, and the polkdot dots were punched out of the umbrella from the stamp set. I had some umbrellas stamped and was going to try to work them into the page, but I didn't end up using them as umbrellas. However, they are cute as punched dots too!
All right, I feel like I need to explain this next pic. LOL!...

We were doing FaceTime with my husband's family on Easter, and Kati made us all bunny ears to wear out of paper the night before, so we all put them on while we did FaceTime with them. So his mom took a picture of her TV screen with us and our bunny ears! I asked her to email it to me, then I cropped it down and took the TV out of the pic, so it's not very good quality, but still fun! I think she snapped it before we were smiling and ready for the pic, but I still like it. :) And would you know, my dog kept her ears on the whole time we talked to them! Hilarious! We laughed and laughed!

Behind the photo is a tag I made with one of the journaling cards and stamped with "true story" from the Wet Paint II stamp set. And the little flower is Button Stacks II with the Filigree Border die again.

Tips to keep your pocket pages quick/simple:

1. Choose a few of your favorite pictures from the day or event. Only your favorites! Don't worry about the rest. Or you can tuck the others in the pockets behind your favorites.
2. Arrange the pics you chose on your page. Balance out the "weight" of the photos, so one side is not heavier feeling than the other.
3. Decide where your journaling will go. Add a tag? Fill a whole pocket with journaling? Write important info on back of photos?
4. And last, fill in the rest of the spaces in with color (i.e. journal cards, stamps, embellishments, washi tape, etc.) Try to balance out the color on each side for a more pleasing look.
5. Think of the little pockets as individual cards instead of the whole as a scrapbook layout! It's easier for me to scrap that way...maybe it will work for you too!
6. Don't think too much about it! Cut and paste and call it good! Your family will appreciate the wonderful memories you captured in your album.

Just for fun, I made one more card with the Monthly Moments: April Journal Card Pack and the Monthly Moments: April stamps. I layered two of the journal cards together (trimmed the top one off a tiny bit on the top and bottom, so the card underneath would show), then added some flowers to the centers of the floral card cut with the Button Stacks II die.
The stamped sentiment is popped up and a piece of seam binding is tied around it. Two of the leaves are cut out with a craft knife and folded up for dimension just on the tips of the leaves.
